He is a very useful person at the railway station. He rises early in the

luggage of the passengers. A railway porter is a poor and helpless man. Generally he has no land and property of his

hunters are very careful and alert when they go out on hunting in the
forest.

heavy loads of stone and timber in the hill
area. The elephant comes to the use of man even after its death. Its bones and
tusks are used for making valuable articles. He is obedient to his
driver who is called `Mahut.'

Rice
Rice is the
staple food in Bangladesh. Almost two-third people of the whole world live on
rice. We get rice from paddy. Rice grows well in host and moist climate. It is
grown mainly in Bangladesh, India, China, Pakistan, Burma, Indonesia, Japan,
Canada, the USA. Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia. There are mainly four kinds of
rice. They are Aus, Aman, Boro and Irri. Aus is sown in Baishakh and harvested
in Sravan. Aman is sown in Asar ans Sravan and reaped in Agrahayan and Pous. Boro
is sown in pous and harvested in Chaittra. Irri is grown through the year. We
can prepare different types of food from rice. We eat boiled rice, which is
called Bhat. Chira, muri, khai, hotchpotch, polau, biriani etc are made from
rice. Different types of Pitha or cakes are also made from the powdered rice.
Straw is used for making the roof. It is also used as fodder and fuel in rural
areas.
Tea
Tea is a very popular
drink. Tea is grown mostly in the slops of hills. Much rainfall is necessary
for growing tea. It must also be ensured the rain water does not stand at the
root of the tea plants. So most of the tea garden are in hilly region. In
Bangladesh most of the tea gardens are in Sylhet division. Some other countries
like China, Indonesia and India also grow tea.
Tea preparation is not
difficult at all. At first water is boiled and tea leaves are dropped in the
water. The liquid is called liquor. The liquor is then poured in a cup and then
sugar and milk are added in it. Thus we get a delicious cup of tea. Tea is a
refreshing drink. Most of the people drink tea to get rid of fatigue. It has also
much medicinal properties. It is a very effective anti-oxidant that can save us
from many diseases like cancer.
Researchers have also found that four cups of tea per day can reduce the
risk of heart disease to a great extent. As a result it can reduce the risk of
heart failure.
Tea helps our economy
too. Bangladesh earns a lot of foreign exchange every year by exporting tea.
Tea garden and factories employ a lot of workers. Many people are also employed
indirectly in the business of tea. In this way tea industry contributes in
reducing unemployment problems in Bangladesh.
