My Town |
My native town is Chittagong. It is the major port city of Bangladesh. It is situated on the river Karnafuli. Chittagong is remarkable for many beautiful hillocks within the town. The court buildings are situated on one of these hillocks. There are many schools and colleges, a Medical college, a University and numerous other educational institutions in this town. The New Market is the busy fashionable shopping centre here. There are many other big plazas and markets here. There is a big Railway workshop at Pahartali. There are also a Steel Mill, a fertilizer factory and a oil refinery here. Many other mills and factories and business centres have added much to the importance of the port city. Chittagong has been an interesting town for many centuries. Anderkilla still commemorates a pre-Mughal fort, which is now extinct. The Jam-e-Masjeed in the heart of the town is the oldest surviving monument dating from the early Mughal period. The temple of the goddess Chatteswari, is also worth-seeing. Buddhism also has its relics in the town. In the heart of the city there is a big and fine park called the Faij lake which is worth-seeing. Chittagong is the second populous town in Bangladesh. The sea is only four to five miles off from here. So its climate is good. Chittagong is dear to me and I am proud that I am born and brought up here.
